Capiz emerges as a chocolate making hub in Western Visayas

Last November 9, 2024, the Capiz Cacao Producers’ Cooperative launched Conlu Cacao, the first -ever FDA-approved, Capisnon crafted chocolate brand. 

The formal launching was attended by provincial leaders and industry enthusiasts, including Governor Fredenil Castro, Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas, and Panitan Mayor Kit Belo. 

“This is more than just chocolate; it’s a taste of Capiz, meticulously crafted from bean to bar,” said in a statement on Conlu Cacao’s official Facebook page.  Furthermore, Conlu Cacao aims to promote to sustainable and ethical practices while empowering our community and delivering unparalleled quality in every chocolate it makes.

Conlu Cacao takes its name from Dr. Rose Marie Conlu, co-founder of Capiz Cacao Producers’ Cooperative, who has been at the helm of crafting the perfect Capisnon chocolate since 2022, when the association, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry launched the Capiz Chocolate Factory in Panitan, Capiz.

Meanwhile, in the town of Maayon, DADs Farm Fresh and Fermented Food Products owned and managed by Roy Depon, a retired seafarer, also produces Capisnon-made chocolates. 

O'Guia's Chocolate is often praised for its complex flavor, which typically includes notes of fruity, wine, and nutty undertones. Its Tablea was recently adjudged Third Place during the Philippine Flavored Tablea Competition 2024 

Capiz is indeed carving a name for itself in the world of chocolates. Enterprises like Conlu Cacao and Dad’s Farm place the province on the map as a true destination for authentic Filipino cacao and chocolate-making excellence.
